CRCL: Bayou Sauvage with US Fish and Wildlife

Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana Volunteer Opportunity

Bayou Sauvage Christmas Tree Drop

Wednesday, April 20th

Madere Marsh Boardwalk – Bayou Sauvage, New Orleans

9 AM – 1 PM

Join CRCL, the Fish and Wildlife Service, City of New Orleans and the National Guard for a day of volunteering at Bayou Sauvage! Each year with the disposal of hundreds of Christmas Trees the City has teamed up with the Fish and Wildlife Service to reuse this waste stream to help support coastal restoration efforts at the 2nd largest urban refuge in the country. Once the National Guard Aircrew drops the bundles of Christmas trees in their designated place, volunteers will be needed to ride out on airboats to collect the harnesses used to lift them. Once deployed the trees will slow down wave action, allow for submerged vegetation to grow, and trap sediment in place.  Watch this video to learn more about Christmas Tree Recycling and what you will do as a volunteer!
