CWRC Convening

Interested in learning more about restoration work in the Central Wetlands and opportunities to get involved? Join us for our second annual CWRC Convening at Docville Farm.

Join us for our Central Wetlands Reforestation Collective (CWRC) Convening at Docville Farm on April 3, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.! The CWRC Annual Convening is a free event open to everyone, highlighting:

  • Insightful panel discussions featuring speakers from partner organizations such as CRCL, CSED of the Lower 9th Ward and Common Ground Relief.
  • Networking hour with food and beverages.
  • Guided tour of the cypress tree nursery at Docville Farm.
  • Informative sessions on partner organizations and CWRC planting sign-up opportunities.
  • And more…

The panel presentation will delve into the conditions of the Central Wetlands Unit since the closure of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, the need to reforest the area for future weather resilience, the synergy between individual efforts and broader restoration initiatives outlined in the state’s Coastal Master Plan. Our aim is to equip residents of all ages with the knowledge to champion coastal restoration for their communities.

Who is CWRC?

CWRC is comprised of organizations dedicated to restoring a bald cypress and water tupelo bottomland hardwood forest in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish. Our partners include CRCL, Common Ground Relief, CSED of the Lower 9th Ward, Arlene & Joseph Meraux Foundation and Pontchartrain Conservancy, with support from the St. Bernard Wetlands Foundation, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Established in 2019, CWRC collaborates closely to maximize the impact of individual efforts. Through native plant restoration projects, we aim to reforest the wetlands, thereby enhancing ecosystem services, mitigating hurricane impacts, creating better habitats and fostering stronger community-landscape connections. These initiatives serve to educate and engage residents in the vital work of coastal restoration.
